August is here, which means that Edinburgh turned into the biggest celebration of arts and culture on the planet, and one truly Manic Monday!
The Scottish capital will host the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, Edinburgh International Festival, and the Edinburgh International Book Festival, with over 5,000 shows, events and exhibitions throughout the month.
In the last few years, more and more people have begun turning away from pharmaceuticals in favour of Cannabidiol (CBD), as a natural solution to their ailments, and unlike most pharmaceutical options, CBD has no negative side effects.
Since the World Anti Doping Agency removed CBD from their list of prohibited substances in early 2018, the CBD industry has seen many athletes using the cannabinoid for its purported anti-inflammatory effects. Another sector which has seen a large uptake in CBD useage is the performance and arts industry.
Much like athletes, performers, all put their bodies under a certain degree of stress when rehearsing and performing, risking injury and illness. Furthermore, long-running and touring productions can lead to mental health and sleep issues after prolonged periods of living out of a suitcase and not having a home to go back to after work; not to mention any problems that occur on the road such as venue or technology problems or staff illness, that could add to the toll.
Considering the physical toll performing can take on the body, it’s not surprising that many sometimes require pain killing medication, but these often come with awful side effects, some of which can be even more debilitating than the pain itself. With so many people, from professional athletes to chronic pain sufferers hailing the anti inflammatory and calming properties of CBD, it makes sense that performers and artists are turning to CBD to help deal with their demanding schedules.
So, how can CBD help artists and performers?
The Endocannabinoid System is responsible for maintaining a sense of balance in the human body, and with receptors on every major organ it regulates mental health and mood, sleep, pain sensitivity, appetite, immunity, and metabolism amongst many others. Rather than triggering the receptors of the Endocannabinoid System, CBD attaches itself to the receptors and modifies them to enhance their uptake of cannabinoids such as Anandamide that naturally occur in the human body. In essence, CBD helps to boost the cannabinoids absorbed by the Endocannabinoid System, which in turn boosts the Endocannabinoid System’s ability to restore and maintain balance throughout the body.
Achieving a sense of balance throughout the body, and mind, off stage is undoubtedly one of the most effective ways to deal with a demanding performance schedule and life on the road, and of course, to give the best performance of your life.
